Coon Creek Regional Trail Description

Nestled alongside Coon Creek, this two-lane asphalt trail runs between Northdale Boulevard and Coon Rapids Boulevard. The trail mostly travels within the wooded confines of two city parks: Erlander Park and Robinson Park. Other points of interest include the Coon Rapids City Hall, Hamilton Elementary School, Anoka Hennepin Regional High School and Al Flynn Park.

North of the trail, another segment of the same system called the Sand Creek Trail snakes west to Foley Boulevard. For the southern end, there are plans to eventually connect the Coon Creek trail to the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park and the Mississippi River Trail. At present, you can use sidewalks to close the gap.

Parking and Trail Access

There is parking behind Anoka Hennepin Regional High School near the baseball field, at 1313 Coon Rapids Blvd NW, Coon Rapids.

Coon Creek Regional Trail Reviews

Easy, pleasant ride

The trail is lovely. Mostly flat, with mild hills. Mostly wooded (shady and cool!) as it winds along the creek, with quite a few wooden bridges to go over. It could use more signs - a few sections are disconnected by streets and I didn’t know which way to go. The section between Coon Rapids Dam and Al Flynn Park is the least pleasant because it runs along Coon Rapids Blvd. We saw wild turkeys and rode our bikes under a train - a 5 star experience!

our first ride of 2024

We started our ride at the coon Rapids dam and took it all the way up to Bunker Hills Park. It was one of the more interesting rides of our 1100 mile total so far. I like being close to the river, really pretty sights Lots of turns and slight hills, very easy to maneuver. Perfect first season ride with my buddy. I would recommend this trail to anybody and I’m gonna go on it a few more times at least. We will probably go in different seasons just to see the changing forest around us. Really nice trail. Good quality.

Scenery in the Metro

This is a very nice way to connect the Coon Rapids Dam to Bunker Hills Park. It sounds along Coon Creek much of the way and you could easily forget it’s within a major metro area. It’s a little hard to navigate with all the splits and turns, but is a great ride. It’s also in the woods much of the way, so it’s good on a hot or windy day.

great trail

Seclusion from the city. Runs along coon creek and through the woods most of the way. You spend about 4 minutes on the actual road. This will be a frequent bike path for me!
