The Cushing Park Road Recreational Trail begins on the western outskirts of Delafield, a small community about 30 miles west of Milwaukee. From Delafield's Main Street, the trail heads south, paralleling Cushing Park Road but separated from the roadway by a comfortable margin. The paved pathway crosses the Lapham Peak Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest and traverses prairie landscapes.
Spanning 3 miles, the route is not especially long, but it is an important connector in the regional trail network as it connects to the Lake County Recreation Trail on its north end and the the Glacial Drumlin State Trail at its southern end. Hikers will also enjoy the pathway's connection to the Ice Age Trail.
Parking and restrooms are available just north of the northern end of the trail in Cushing Memorial Park. Parking can also be found in Lapham Peak State Park.
This paved trail is a short (3 mile) north-south connector between two more prominent east-west rail trails -- the Lake Country Trail and the Glacial Drumlin State Trail. The route in its entirety parallels Cushing Park Road, running for more than a mile along the western edge of Lapham Peak State Park and Evans Prairie, where views of prairie grasses and wildflowers can be enjoyed by passing bikers and hikers. Elevation changes over the gently rolling terrain are easy to negotiate.
