Delaware Creek Trail

Meandering along Delaware Creek in the City of Irving, this multiuse trail will provide a continuous off-road connection between Senter Park and Mountain Creek Preserve. Easily accessible from the surrounding homes and businesses, the trail provides a pretty and convenient off-road connection between neighborhoods as it follows the creek through well-kept grass fields and the occasional patch of woods. There is lots to do and explore along the route with plenty of opportunities for both relaxation and recreation.

The first section of the trail is open and runs between Senter Park East and S Nursery Road. The trail's northern end is located at Senter Park East (1000 Senter Rd). There is a sign for the park here. Head down Scarborough Lane until it dead ends in the trailhead parking lot. There is a pedestrian bridge that crosses over the creek to the trail, which then heads south through Senter Park East. Crossing E Shady Grove Road, the trail continues through Fritz Park (1420 S Britain Rd). Contuning south, the trail crosses E Oakdale Road and meanders through a grass field to S Nursery Road.

The multiuse trail is smooth, wide, and paved with concrete. There are retaining walls, benches, and trash receptacles located along the route. There are crosswalks where the trail crosses E Shady Grove Road and E Oakdale Road.

About a mile will be added to the trail during the second and final phase of construction. The trail will continue south and run along Nursery Road to the Mountain Creek Preserve (1005 E Hunter Ferrell Rd).

At its northern end, the Delaware Creek Trail connects with the pathways winding through Senter Park (901 Senter Rd). Senter Park's trail continues following the Delaware Creek north until it links with the trail meandering through Centennial Park (444 W 2nd St). These park pathways are also smooth, wide, and paved with either concrete or asphalt.

The parks themselves provide numerous amenities and opportunities for recreation including restrooms, drinking water, benches, picnic areas and pavilions, grills, playgrounds, and a variety of sports fields and courts. Centennial Park has a dog-run cabin, Senter Park has a recreation center with a pool open seasonally, and Fritz Park has an amphitheater. For a longer adventure, try starting at Centennial Park and head south along the creek through Senter Park, Senter Park East before continuing on the Delaware Creek Trail through Fritz Park and towards the preserve. Once the trail is finished and runs all the way to the Mountain Creek Preserve, this route through the parks will offer about 4 miles of easy, off-road trail.

Parking and Trail Access

The public transit system DART serves the City of Irving and offers access to the trail. Visit the DART website to plan your trip and refer to the TrailLink map to find the most convenient transit stop.

For those driving, parking is available at Senter Park East (1000 Senter Rd). Turn off Senter Road onto Scarborough Lane, which dead ends in the trailhead parking lot. Cross the pedestrian bridge over Delaware Creek to reach the trail. There is one accessible parking space here and additional accessible spaces at the other parking locations.

Additional parking is available at Centennial Park (444 W 2nd St), Senter Park (901 Senter Rd), and Fritz Park (1420 S Britain Rd). Senter Park has multiple parking lots—a larger one off Senter Rd, a slightly smaller lot off 9th St W, and a linear lot located at the corner of 9th St W & S Ohio St.
