Dubuque Jaycees Trail Description

The Dubuque Jaycees Trail runs for just over a mile from Pyatigorsk Park (named for a Russian sister city to Dubuque) up to the 8-acre A.Y. McDonald Park, a popular fishing and boat launch spot located where the Lake Peosta Channel flows back into the Mississippi River. The trail takes you behind a series of shops and businesses in a more industrial area of northern Dubuque thanks to the nearby rail yard and harbors, but the trail itself is nicely removed from the adjacent hustle and bustle, following the course of the channel. The southern end of the trail also connects with the Bee Branch Trail, which users can take to head in towards the northern end of Dubuque's charming downtown, as well as the Peosta Channel Trail, which provides access over the channel and onto Chaplain Schmitt Island and a variety of popular destinations and park areas. In addition to its aquatic amenities, A.Y. McDonald Park also offers a sizeable playground, picnic area, and restrooms, making this a great stop for those exploring the area via Dubuque's growing network of trails and bike routes.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at Pyatigorsk Park on the southern end of the trail off of Kerper Boulevard, and at the northern end at A.Y. McDonald Park off of Harbor Street. From northbound US 61/151, take the exit for Kerper Blvd. and the parking lot at Pyatigorsk park is straight across from the exit ramp. From southbound US 61/151, take the exit for Kerper Blvd. and continue on E 16th Street, then turn right onto Kerper Blvd. and the lot will be on the right side.

Dubuque Jaycees Trail Reviews

Clean, Mowed & Beautiful

Fantastic views of the Mississippi River and bridges connecting Dubuque, IA to Wisconsin & Illinois. Dog friendly, not too crowded with a few bikers. Great asphalt path and freshly mowed grass down to the river’s edge.
