Dunnellon Trail Description

Lying largely within the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, this trail begins just off Bridge Rd by a trail kiosk with a map of the route. This paved path passes through 2.5 miles of cypress and over the Withlacoochee River via a magnificent bridge with observation platforms. A spur partway along the trail connects to Blue Run, a small Dunnellon park (19680 E Pennsylvania Ave) less than a mile from town. There are a few trailheads along the route with parking and restrooms. As the trail continues, it crosses US Hwy 41 and then winds through a wooded, sparsely populated residential area. The trail ends at the Withlacoochee State Trail - Gulf Junction Trailhead (2246 W Magenta Dr, Citrus Springs), which is where the Dunnellon Trail and the Withlacoochee State Trail connect.

The Dunnellon Trail serves as part of the connector from the Withlacoochee State Trail into Dunnellon and to the Greenway. This trail, however, is more than just a connector. It is quite beautiful in its own right, and is well worth seeing if you are in Dunnellon riding the Withlacoochee Trail or visiting Rainbow Springs.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available in a lot on Bridges Rd near the Dunnellon Little League Field (12214 Bridges Rd), at the northern end of the Blue Run spur (19680 E Pennsylvania Ave), by the Dunnellon Trailhead CR 39 (1239 W Withlacoochee Trail, Citrus Springs), and there is a parking lot at the southern most end of the trail by the Withlacoochee State Trail - Gulf Junction Trailhead (2246 W Magenta Dr, Citrus Springs).

Dunnellon Trail Reviews

Old Florida feel

Beautiful trail with bridge views which offers the perfect spot to see gators! After crossing bridge heading north you have swamplands on sides of trail with the traditional live oaks and Spanish moss which is very scenic. Ends with ramp launch into river. This is a very popular trail and very short so it can be crowded with walkers and cyclists. Enjoy!

Amazing Quality for Skaters

I distance skate on quads and I actually had finished the full Withalacooche and decided to do this one too. AMAZING SURFACE AND PERFECT FOR SKATES. Flew through this trail. Loved the bridge. Beautiful marsh area. Lots of people walking but still very enjoyable and beautiful.

Short, but mighty!

This is a pleasant extension to the Withlacoochie Trail connecting into Dunnellon. The trail itself is rather short, but the bridge over the river is an absolute highlight. Enjoyed the scenery through the cypress swamps and the opportunity to extend my ride a few miles further.

Blue Run at Dunnellon, Florida

A beautiful trail for walking or biking, not long but perfect for a walk or short ride.

Nature lover’s trail

I love this trail with its wonderful nature views. It’s the perfect length for walking. It will soon be linked by a tunnel they are building now under Hwy 41.

One of my favorites!

Great trail for riding & walking. Short & beautiful.

nice trail

This was a very nice trail. Short but very nice scenery.

Great Trail

I have ridden this trail several times during the past year & half and enjoy it just as much each time. It is a very easy trail but beautiful all of the way and the Bridge over the river is spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!. Short, but one of my favorite trails to ride and I ride many of the trails in Central Fl.

Short Easy Trail.

Hard surface trail. Nice country trail but close to odd house, Estates etc. Nice bridge over looking river. couple of animals. nice and easy hour circle cycle. Well maintained Trail.
