Eau Claire River Trail Description

Residents of Weston don't have to travel far to access beautiful trails. The village is home to the Mountain-Bay State Trail, which offers 83 miles of walking and biking across Wisconsin. For those wanting a shorter run, the Eau Claire River Trail is right on their doorstep. The trail, as the name suggests, allows users to enjoy the river running through their community. The trail is a favorite for families looking to get out to the river for picnicking, wading and generally appreciating nature.

The River Trail has a number of access points in the residential neighborhoods close to the river. This makes it easy for folks to get out of their houses and onto the trail on foot or by bike. The trail runs from Brook Court in the north to Ryan Street in the south. Its surface is gravel, which is a bit easier on the knees than pavement. Riparian trees provide pockets of shade while six wooden bridges provide views of the water. The trail signage carved directly into rock is a neat touch. Picnic tables invite trail users to stay a little longer.

At the south end of the trail, users can take Ryan Street to reach the Mountain-Bay State Trail. Note that, unlike the Eau Claire River Trail, which is free to use, a State Trail Pass is required to bike or ride horses on the state trail. For information, go to dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/trailpass.html.

Parking and Trail Access

There is no designated parking for this trail. The three access points at Brook Court, Tricia Avenue and Ryan Street allow users to enter the trail on foot or by bike.

Eau Claire River Trail Reviews

I enjoyed it

This was my first trail since moving to the Wausau area. I enjoyed it. My dog really enjoyed it. Lots of wildlife and beautiful scenery. We went on a rainy day, so it was extremely quiet. Not sure if it’s always that way. The trail was clean and there were benches and trash cans all along the way. We’ll definitely be back.
