Eduardo Hernandez Memorial Trail Description

Located in Miami’s West End, the Eduardo Hernandez Memorial Trail provides a mile-long route paralleling SW 157th Avenue through the community of Kendall West. The pathway is named after a good Samaritan who was killed by a drunk driver in 2014 while stopping to provide assistance at the scene of an accident along SW 157th Avenue.

The paved pathway begins a short distance north of the popular Westwind Lakes Park, which offers sports facilities, a playground, and picnic pavilions. The trail heads north from SW 59th Terrace, bordered largely by residential homes, but occasionally passing eateries, stores, and other businesses. Midway, the trail approaches the SW 47 Street, where travelers can turn west to reach Eden Lakes Park just a few blocks away; the park offers picnic shelters and a playground. The trail ends a few blocks farther north at SW 42nd Street, also known as Bird Road, adjacent to a canal.

The path runs close to Lamar Louise Curry Middle School, John A. Ferguson Senior High School, and Dr. Manuel C. Barreiro Elementary School, providing students with the opportunity to more safely access their homes and community amenities.

Parking and Trail Access

Near the south end of the trail, parking is available in Westwind Lakes Park (6805 SW 152 Ave.). Mid-way, Eden Lakes Park (4751 SW 162 Ave.) offers parking a few blocks west of the trail.

Eduardo Hernandez Memorial Trail Reviews

trail so so

Too short. We were going north to 8 street and trail cut off early. Sidewalks were the only answer.

great but short

I’ve in-line skated at this trail, it’s nice and smooth for the most part the north end towards 64th st gets un skatable but there’s a sidewalk one the side you can use instead. But the rest of the trail heading south for 40th is lots of fun and just a couple street crossing so nothing to dangerous. For my liking it’s just a little short only a little over a mile doesn’t go to far, if some how they extended it to 8th street or something that would be great! Either way great trail for a walk or a short safe bike ride with the family
