Gettysburg Inner Loop Description

The Gettysburg Inner Loop is a network of multi-use trails and signed, on-street bicycle routes, paralleled by sidewalks for foot traffic, currently being built around the perimeter of the historic, south-central Pennsylvania town. As of late 2018, about one-third of the network, including 3 offroad segments, have been completed. When completed, the trail will form a 2-mile, unbroken loop, with additional connections to the North Gettysburg Trail, which extends north along Old US Route 15 to the high school, and the Gettysburg National Military Park Trail, which connects Steinwehr Ave. on the south end of town with the visitor center for the famous national park. Long range plans anticipate the network forming part of the Grand History Loop, a much longer greenway loop that will link numerous historical sites in Pennyslvania, Maryland and Washington DC, incorporating the Hanover Trolley Trail, York County Heritage Rail Trail, the Torrey Brown Rail Trail, Jones Falls Trail, Baltimore & Annapolis Trail, WB & A Trail, C&O Canal Trail and other, as yet unbuilt multi-use trails.

Parking and Trail Access

The best parking can be found off LeFever Street near the intersection with Baltimore Street, Gettysburg Recreational Park and along borough streets.

For transportation

This is a work in progress that aims at facilitating getting around Gettysburg by bike. NOT a trail one would ride for fun. However, it's a good way to get to some of the fine bike riding ion the national military park roads.
