Haggetts Rail Trail Description

The Haggetts Rail Trail is a short, but sweet unpaved trail located on the periphery of Haggetts Pond, the local reservoir for the nearby town of Andover. Built on part of the former line of the historic Lowell and Lawrence Railroad, the trail offers a great, quiet place to go for a run or walk through the lovely wooded landscape. The trail is unpaved with a hard-packed primarily dirt surface, which may be accessible for some types of wheelchairs.

The trail begins in the south off of Haggetts Pond Road and heads north along the edge of the pond. A short side trail to the left provides access from Woodhill Road and allows you to explore more of the conservation area lands. Continuing on a flat and easy route through the thickly wooded land surrounding the pond, the trail comes to an end at High Plain Road. Anyone interested in local history, or just looking for a relaxing place to get some exercise, should keep their eye out for this little gem.

Please note that the Haggett's Pond Road entrance to the trail has a vehicle gate with large rocks on either side, which may pose a barrier for those using a wheelchair. The entrance is viewable via streetview on the map.

Parking and Trail Access

A small lot is located right next to the southern trailhead off of Haggetts Pond Rd.

To reach the southern trailhead from the direction of Boston, take I-93 north towards Andover, and take exit 43. Turn left onto State Route 133 (Lowell Street) and continue for about a mile. Turn right onto Haggetts Pond Road - the trailhead will be on the right.
