Hartford Riverwalk Description

The Hartford Riverwalk is a charming network of paved pathways for cyclists and pedestrians that runs along the banks of the Connecticut River through the state capital. The trail provides an off-road link between various destinations along the river, from the city's Riverside Park, to the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, and down to the Charter Oak Landing in the south. In addition to tying together these recreational amenities and popular sightseeing locales, the trail feeds in to the lengthy Charter Oak Greenway, which continues all the way east past Manchester.

The Riverwalk makes for one of the best ways to experience Hartford's historic downtown riverfront, with trail users walking or riding along the path, accompanied by people boating up and down the river. The Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, the centerpiece of the riverfront park system, offers an outdoor performance space with a variety of public art installations, and in late summer makes for a great place to watch the annual Dragon Boat Festival on the river.

Local officials are actively working on extending the trail to allow it to continue further north, taking it from Riverside Park up towards the community of Windsor. Currently set for construction in the summer of 2020, the project will make the Hartford Riverwalk into an even more impressive community asset, providing residents and visitors with a top-notch recreation path.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available on the north side of the trail at Riverside Park and the Riverfront Boathouse, located at 20 Leibert Road. Additional parking is available on the south side of the trail at Charter Oaks Landing, located at 50 Reserve Road.

Hartford Riverwalk Reviews

peaceful walk

I stopped on Wednesday on my way home to walk my dog. Very quiet during the week and a lovely walk if you like to listen to the water from the Connecticut river flowing by. You can see where the river has flooded, read the various historical statue plaques.

Lovely!

I went here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. What a lovely place! This is a paved trail that follows the river and has a nice playground and picnic area at one end. There are various sculptures related to Abraham Lincoln along the way. It was very relaxing to stroll along the water. The views of the bridges and the Hartford skyline are stunning. Will definitely return!

Beautiful~

Why am I the first one reviewing this lovely path? On Wed Sept 09, 2020 I rode here with beautiful weather 70F and dry. Both sides of the Connecticut river with the City of Hartford on the west are connected by several bridges, but the best is the Veteran's bridge. There are many sculptures everywhere.
Go. Enjoy the lovely scenery and the city.
