Haul Road Trail Description

Constructed on the route of a former railroad line that hauled lumber for nearby mills, the Haul Road Trail begins just east of the popular Skyline Sports Complex and continues for five miles southwest along Century Drive. The paved trail heads out to the eastern border of Willamette National Forest, where users can continue along a smooth asphalt path to the Cascade Lakes Welcome Station—a portion of the route that is also known as the Rimrock Trail.

For a longer journey, you can head north along the Colorado Trail, which in turn connects to the scenic, 12-mile Deschutes River Trail. The Haul Road Trail offers a wide array of scenery, from the suburban neighborhoods and shopping centers of Bend on the trail's northern end, to the quiet tranquility of the protected forest lands on the southern end.

Parking and Trail Access

Ample parking can be found just west of the trail at the Skyline Sports Complex (19617 Mountaineer Way).

Additional parking is available on the southwestern end of the trail at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Station, located at 18500 Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway.

Haul Road Trail Reviews

It would be 5 stars for a semi urban trail that continues out along the rather busy Century Drive except for the initial road crossings. It is all smooth pavement suitable for many uses including skating. A nice 10 mile out and back.
