A sidepath trail that runs alongside Meadows Boulevard in western Rio Rancho, the Hawks Trail provides a nice wide asphalt path for recreation and transportation, helping local residents safely reach the Colinas del Norte Elementary School (whose mascot, the Hawks, lends the trail its name). Beginning at Cherry Road in the south, the trail leads north from the residential subdivision along the boulevard, with a series of benches lining the trail in front of the school. The wider asphalt comes to an end at 28th Avenue, where a narrower sidewalk continues to reach the larger neighborhoods to the north.
Parking may be available along the trail at the elementary school, located at 1001 Night Sky Avenue NE; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
