Heart of Blue Hill Trails Description

While these short trails only total out to around 0.75 miles, the Heart of Blue Hills Trail system is a vital community resource. This short trail system encompasses the John H. Murphy Memorial Trail, Kaiser Connector, and Parker Point-South Street Trail. All three of these trails help to connect the commercial and downtown districts of Blue Hill, a project conceived of through a $10,000 AARP grant through their Age-Friendly Communities Program.

The Blue Hill Heritage Trust, who manages this trail system, said they recognized a need for car-free transportation among their elderly population, as a part of an effort to help residents age-in-place, and with the help of local boy scouts, constructed these trails.

The John H. Murphy Trail is the flattest and widest of these trails, composed of 10-ft wide crushed limestone. It connects with the Kaiser Connector, which is slightly more rustic. The Kaiser Connector is perpendicular to the Parker Pt-South Street Trail, which is the longest of these trails and climbs the most elevation. Part of this trail is constructed with wooden stairs cases, which while ideal for pedestrians is not ideal for cyclists.
