Homer Spit Trail Description

On the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, the Homer Spit is a long, narrow landform jutting out into the Kachemak Bay. The 4.5-mile strip hosts industrial, commercial and recreational activities, including camping, shopping, walking and boat tours. The Homer Spit trail is an off-road multiuse pathway along the eastern side of the spit, overlooking Mud Bay, an incredible spot to watch shorebirds and waterfowl. With the dove-white mountains rising in the background, Alaska’s diverse land- and marine- life is on full display here. The trail provides a safe, non-motorized access to the boat harbor at the end of the Spit.

Parking and Trail Access

There is a good amount of parking on the Spit is around the harbor area and the fishing lagoon. Most of the parking is free, and there are dedicated handicap spaces, but the parking can get congested near the retail areas, particularly busy summer days.

Homer Spit Trail

Great trail, you can start at either end. The trail is kept clear of any obstacles that may impede a wheel chair. Beautiful views of the mountains, Kachemak Bay and the Homer Harbor. There are many shops and restaurants along the way.
