I-70 Genesee Bike Path Description

The shared use path winds along the north side of I-70 for 2.4 miles. The concrete path runs through Genesee Park, starting from the Buffalo Overlook in the North Bison Pasture at Exit 254. A herd of American bison can often be seen dotting the rolling green pasture that is bisected by the interstate highway. The three dozen or so bison are descended from seven Yellowstone bison that were brought to the area in 1914. The bison are a delight for children to behold. Adults too, will find themselves enraptured by the sight of the US's largest land mammal.

The trail continues, roughly paralleling I-70, dipping and rising on the hilly terrain as it heads west, offering views of the hazy blue mountains in the distance. It's about 2.4 miles one-way, and 4.8 miles out-and-back although there is the option to start the ride from the Beaver Brook Trailhead on Stapleton Road. The trail also serves as an important bike-ped connection in the route between Denver and Glenwood Springs. fROM Denver, take the Clear Creek Trail to Golden, the ride Lookout Mountain Road to the I-70 Trail. Check out  Bicycle Colorado for details on the rest of the route.
