Joe's Trail at Saratoga De Anza Description

Joe's Trail at Saratoga de Anza parallels the south side of the active Union Pacific Railroad tracks that travel through a residential area of Saratoga, a California community just south of the San Francisco Bay. The trail is part of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, which commemorates the 1775-1776 Spanish Expedition and stretches more than 1,200 miles from San Francisco to Nogales, Arizona.

Running in a PG&E utility corridor, Joe's Trail has a decomposed granite surface and crosses two bridges over both Saratoga and Rodeo Creeks. Due to right-of-way ownership issues, the trail is currently open in two disconnected segments on either side of Cox Avenue.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking can be found in Congress Springs Park (12970 Glen Brae Drive) on the other side of the railroad track near the trail's southern end. At the north end of the trail, there's a small trailhead at Saratoga/Sunnyvale Road, south of Sea Gull Way near the Azule Crossing Shopping Center.

A world apart?

Being on this trail is a lovely escape from the city streetscape. In the works now is County action to close the cement plant at the end of the RR spur this trail adjoins. When that happens, there is a County adopted plan for the trail to extend all the way from Los Gatos to Rancho San Antonio Open Space!

Leash law

Too many dogs not on leashes . Owners not picking up after them

Joe's Trail Beautiful !!!

Thank you for Joe's wife who donated money for this trail. A wonderful story. We live in Saratoga and biked from our home to the De Anza Blvd took the entire trail to Saratoga Ave. Left up Fruitvale, Right on Montak and took the trail behind Redwood School to Saratoga Ave. Snaked our way back along several connecting streets. A 40 minute ride. Just right. Wish more trail connected to Los Gatos. Thank you for this incredibly clean, even trail.
