Kings Mountain Gateway Trail Description

Kings Mountain Gateway Trail is situated in a beautiful natural park setting offering a picnic shelter, restrooms, drinking fountains, and parking. Much of the park is heavily wooded and the trail is suitable for hiking and biking. The trail travels through property that was once used for mining and, along the way, you will see two hills made of rock removed from the old quarries.

One day, the trail is planned to stretch 8 to 10 miles to connect the city of Kings Mountain, Crowders Mountain State Park, Kings Mountain State Park, Kings Mountain National Military Park, the Overmountain Victory Trail, and the Appalachian Trail. It's currently part of a regional trail network called the Carolina Thread Trail, which will link 15 counties across North and South Carolina.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the trailhead about a half-mile south of downtown Kings Mountain at 807 S. Battleground Avenue on the corner of Quarry Road.

Kings Mountain Gateway Trail Reviews

nice trail

Ride my e-bike on Foote trail. It was small gravel. Good quick ride. Walked my bike on asphalt trail because of lots of walkers but it wasn’t a long walk. Will go back not far from my house.

Biked the trail

My wife and I ( we are in our 60's) rode our ebikes and it was a great workout. I don't think we would have made it on our mountain bikes, but we saw a guy on a regular bike. Make your way to the gravel and it's about 5 miles out and 5 miles back. It is very similar to a rail trail, but it does have some hills. Well maintained and not crowded on the gravel trail. We'll be back.

Nice Trail

I thought this was a nice trail. It was clean and there were quite a few people on the trail. I enjoyed the walk. There are bathrooms although we did not use them. There were some hills.

Hils and more Hils

Lots of hills , nice paved path part is only about 1.5 miles. The long trail toward I 85 very hilly and big rock gravel .
