Lake Koronis Recreational Trail Description

As you walk, bike or skate this smooth trail around Lake Koronis, you'll enjoy take in scenic views of water, farmland, and forests and Native American burial mounds. The trail rings around the lake on a combination of off-street paths paralleling the surrounding roads, and on-road stretches, the longest of which is along Old Lake Road on the east side of the lake.

The most common start point for an excursion on the Lake Koronis Recreational Trail is Lake Koronis Regional Park on the south shore of the lake. This 62-acre green space provides access to the lake for a wide range of activities including fishing, boating, swimming and waterskiing. It has enough for those wishing to remain on dry land, including an all-ages play area, campgrounds and wooded nature trails leading to the park's lookout tower. To get to the Lake Koronis Trail, exit the park on County Road 20. Heading east, the trail sits in the shade of mature trees and tall greenery, heading west, the path travels along open cropland.

On the east shore, Veteran's Park provides an alternative trailhead. The park, which is run by the City of Paynesville, is 12 acres of playgrounds, picnic facilities and volleyball courts. The park also hosts a sandy beach on the lake, locally referred to as Van's Beach. From the park, you can ride on Lake Koronis Road to the Old Lake Road (on-road) segment.

At County Road 181 & Cherrywood Road, the trail branches from the loop, heading north and west, past Paynesville High School to meet the Glacial Lakes State Trail, which itself travels 30 miles through Stearns and Kandiyohi counties.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking and restrooms available at Lake Koronis Regional Park (14076 Bluefield Road, Paynesville) and Veterans Park (not to be mistaken with Veterans Memorial Park) located at 15612 Cedar Point Road, Paynesville.

Lake Koronis Recreational Trail Reviews

It is ruined

This was a GREAT trail. As of 7/29/22 it now has a new gravely surface and is almost unusable for bicycles. Why did this happen?

great workout loop

A couple of areas will really get your heart rate up, but also some easy going stretches. It’s a perfect weekend workout. Bathrooms, water, and parking available at 2 points on the loop, the regional county park and veterans park. There are also beaches at each park to wade in and cool off.

This loop has lots of shade with a couple of good hills. Very relaxing and enjoyable I look forward to riding it again.
