Lake to Lake Bike Trail (WI) Description

The Lake to Lake Bike Trail takes you through the beautiful terrain of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. It is a newer, well-maintained trail, with a wide, crushed limestone roadbed. It is used daily by hikers and bicycle enthusiasts. The trail connects Mauthe and Long Lake recreation areas and passes by the village of Dundee. Dundee is small, but has a gas station/convenience store, and several places to eat and drink.

This was not a rail conversion, so the trail goes up and down as it follows the undulating topography of the Kettle Moraine. The trail passes through hardwood forests, open prairies, tall pines and lowland swamps. There is no fee to ride this trail. There are excellent swimming beaches at both Long Lake and Mauthe Lake.

Parking and Trail Access

The northern parking lot for the Lake to Lake Bike Trail is just outside of the town of Dundee, about 0.2 mile east of the town center on Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive. You can also pick up the trail inside the Long Lake Recreation Area, but if you arrive in a car, you'll have to pay a small fee to enter. The southern parking area is just south of Mauthe Lake Recreation Area.

Nice Trail

Very easy and well maintained Trail between the lakes. We saw lots of young kids riding with family- nice to see.

A very well maintained Trail with services and many parking lots. We experienced a lot of foot and bike traffic especially as we got close to the campgrounds.

Worth it!

My wife and I were visiting with family in Elkhart Lake and decided to stop here for a quick 13 mile ride before driving back to Cincinnati, OH. I’m glad we did! Very rideable and enjoyable terrain. We would definitely come back if we were nearbyy.

would do it again!

Left from Long Lake. Perfect for what I was looking for. Varied scenery, lots of gorgeous meadows, some forest, then swamp-like lands as you get closer to Mauthe Lake. Milder hills compared to what you’d find road biking in the area. Some shade (we left around 10:30am) but depending on time of day and position of sun you could have more shade. I didn’t need bug spray but recommend bringing just incase. Trail wasn’t busy at all. Very enjoyable ride.

Very beautiful quick ride. Mauthe lake was flooded so it started out a very feet soaking ride... but it makes an experience!

A VERY NICE RIDE

I was just on this trail 6/12/16 and this was my first time. VERY smooth and well kept, not much different from asphalt. Saw a lot of wildlife, deer, 4 baby raccoons, chipmonks everywhere. Eazy parking from either end. I will be back for sure.

Nice Ride

My wife and I rode from Long Lake to Mauthe Lake and back. It was the first time that my wife had had her bike on a gravel trail. She doesn't ride much and has a 7-speed. The trail is well maintained and it was a comfortable ride. The hills were no problem for either of us. There are woods at the beginning and at the end of the trail with a lot of open field riding in between. Mauthe Lake was packed with people enjoying Memorial Day and has a nice swimming beach. We were very glad that we picked this trail to ride while we were in the area.

Beautiful trail

I rode here in mid October and the colors were spectacular. Just rode again in early November and it was just as good. With the pines, tamarack and birches there are still plenty of colors.

The middle section is along the forest and into the fields. With a highlight of twists and turns through the woods at both the north and south ends.

Definitely worth a trip in all four seasons.

Beautiful and Diverse Trail

I biked this trail from Long Lake to Mauthe Lake. I had been on the Eisenbahn Trail, but when I came to Campbellsport, I left the Eisenbahn and headed east for six miles to pick up the Lake to Lake Trail. I'm glad I did. The trail is well cared for and in excellent shape. It traverses forests, open fields, and clear-running streams, and takes you by a variety of interesting geological features created during the last ice age. The trail is sinuous and goes up and down numerous hills, but nothing too strenuous. The best thing about this trail is that there's a beautiful lake at each end: Long Lake at the northern end and Mauthe Lake at the south. Both lakes have great beaches for swimming as well as extensive campgrounds.
