Leaburg Canal Trail Description

The Leaburg Canal Trail is a gravel-surfaced trail that runs along a portion of its namesake canal, from its beginnings at the Leaburg Dam, down to near where the power plant that the canal was constructed to support is located. The trail offers a flat and scenic path for pedestrians and cyclists with suitable tires, running along the ridge formed by the canal, with plentiful views of the pine forests and farmlands that border the McKenzie River.

Around the midpoint, the trail crosses over State Highway 126, but is otherwise free from major road crossings, allowing trail users to enjoy their natural surroundings. East of the crossing, the trail passes through the small Greenwood Landing County Park, one of the best fishing and boat launch spots on the river. Perfect for runners looking for a scenic training spot, or Eugene area residents looking for a secluded and easy out-and-back trail, the Leaburg Canal Trail has plenty to offer for those willing to travel a bit off the beaten path.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the northeastern end of the trail by the Leaburg Dam, with a gravel lot located right where a footbridge crosses over the canal at the beginning of the trail. The lot is located on State Highway 126, just south of Leaburg Dam Road - a bus stop serviced by one of Lane County's routes is also located at that site.
