Ligonier Valley Trail Description

The first 0.5 mile of the Ligonier Valley Trail and Bikeway is now complete, linking the town's popular attractions: Fort Ligonier from the days of George Washington and the French and Indian War, the historic Compass Inn for stagecoach travelers, the new Ligonier Valley Railroad Museum, and the Southern Alleghenies Art Museum. In Ligonier Borough, the trail offers a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists to access restaurants and shops in the beautiful town. Farther afield the trail leads bikers and hikers into the countryside of Ligonier Township.

The trail follows what was once the Lincoln Highway, built for early motorists, and extends to a nature trail at the Ligonier Township Municipal Center. Part of the trail is complete and the rest of the route will be finished according to an approved master plan. When finished, the Ligonier Valley Trail and Bikeway will be one of the top trail attractions in the Laurel Highlands and will eventually extend to Idlewild Park, west of Ligonier.

Parking and Trail Access

There is a spacious parking lot at the western trailhead. To get to this parking lot, turn onto Bouquet Street from State Route 711 and follow it until it leads directly into the parking lot. If you are coming from downtown Ligonier, you will turn left onto Bouquet Street. If you are coming from the north, you will turn right onto Bouquet Street.

Ligonier Valley Trail Reviews

Growing bigger and better

This is a walkers, runners and nature lovers dream. Mostly flat and crushed stone on the rail bed area, its quiet and pastoral in one direction, and then a cute historical town in the other.
Parking is ample by the bridge and the Y soccer fields along RT 711.

Signage is being added to guide you to places like Fort Ligonier via the safer walking biking routes. Also to give distances.

Total miles is hard to say. From the bridge north through the farm and soccer field area is about a 3 mile flat round trip.

Five friends on a wonderful trail

On October 25, 2014, Lois, Ann Marie, Christine, Jeff and I walked this stone dust trail. The trail starts at a bridge that crosses over a creek and continues approximately 1.5 miles to a sign depicting a deadly train wreck that occurred almost 100 years ago. There is plenty of parking at both ends of the trail on Boquet St. and before you reach Brigade Lane. The trail is soft, smooth and flat for easy walking and an asset to the Ligonier area.

fine

one fact states it is.05mile and the other under the pic says 1 mile. how far is it from the new bridge to peoples road. thanks so much
