Limerick Trail Description

Part of Limerick Township's ambitious plans to build a network of multi-use greenways, the paved Limerick Trail currently extends nearly 2 miles through the southeastern PA municipality.

The trail currently begins at Limerick Road and extends west, crossing Lewis Road to a dead end behind the Ashford Estatres subdivision, immediately east of Route 422. Plans call for the trail to be extended north to Limerick Center Road in the near future. Like the Skippack and Powerline trails further east, the greenway follows a utility corridor that accomodates two high-tension transmission lines and at least one pipeline. Although the lack of trees makes the trail hot in summer, the corridor features a surprisingly diverse, meadow-like environment where trail users can observe colorful wildflowers and an assortment of wildlife. A small wetland and terraced gardens near the apartment complex that the trail passes southeast of Lewis Road further enhance the trail experience.

Drawbacks to the trail include the fact that a trailhead has not yet been built, nor has a formal crossing at Lewis Road. Trail users are advised to use extreme caution when crossing this busy road.

Parking and Trail Access

No formal trailhead has yet been built. Trail users can park along streets in nearby Ashford Estates development, or use the parking lots of professional centers immediately west of the Lewis Road crossing.

Limerick Trail Reviews

Thank you for this trail

I loved walking the Limerick Trail today. It will be my option when it has recently rained and not too hot. My development did not include anywhere to walk the dog and bike except sidewalks in front of neighbor properties. Having the dog do his "business" on neighbor lawns is not a preferred option. I use the different trails in the area for different weather conditions. I love the woods and the meadows and the ones with a creek. Tall grass and woods require a thorough tick check at this time of year. I hope it is well-maintained and plan on sending in a donation. Went to the Kurylo Park, which at one time, had mowed a mile trail and a half mile trail choice through the meadows. Last week, since it was not mowed, my ankles were spotted with ticks. Thank you

It’s getting better!

I’m giving this a 4 star review because it’s nearby my home and it’s a lot better than just walking in circles in my neighborhood. Yes, it runs under power lines and they crackle. But it’s still a pretty walk and takes you through some open fields and you can enjoy seeing birds, smelling the honeysuckle, etc. The trails heads have been newly installed and when it crosses the roads, it’s very clearly marked for both path walkers and cars. Is it a trail you would want to specifically travel to? Not really, but it’s great for nearby residents to have it close by & to get out of their neighborhood for a change of scenery.

Loud and not worth the time

under power lines, along fast cars on 422, not worth the time.
Plenty of trails in the areas through actual nature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing special

We rode this trail on a sunny morning in late June, one of 8 trails we rode that day. Unless you are also trying to ride 150 trails in one year, I don't recommend this trail. Go to the nearby Limerick Community Park and enjoy that trail instead.
