Lindsay Pettus Greenway Description

Running through the City of Lancaster, the Lindsay Pettus Greenway is a hard surface, ADA compliant multi-use trail that connects neighborhoods, schools, and local businesses, as well as providing access to nature through a wooded area full of wildlife. A large portion of the trail runs through an area held for permanent conservation by the Katawba Valley Land Trust. The 2-mile trail is 10 feet wide with a surface of asphalt and boardwalk. The trail is open from dawn to dusk and is primarily managed by the City of Lancaster.

In addition to the trail access by the two parking areas, there is also neighborhood and downtown access to the trail on Survey Street, Almetta Street, Clinton Avenue, Independence Park, and Colonial & Roddey Drive. However, parking is not available at these points.

Restrooms, a trail kiosk with a map and park rules, benches, trash cans, and doggie waste stations are available at both ends of the trail. Permanent art installations can be found along the trail, including a recent public art installations at the Woodland Drive tunnel underpass.

The Comporium Communication trail access by Lancaster High School on 459 Colonial Drive also has an Environmental Education Area, which includes environmental interpretive panels, wetlands and pier overlooks, pollinator gardens, and a 0.3 mile natural path loop with views of Gills Creek.

The Founders Federal Credit Union trail access behind the Barr Street Learning Center on 610 E. Meeting Street has a family-friendly rest area that includes a Little Free Library, a Paws on Parade arts sculpture, and a Track Trails nature brochure kiosk.

Future plans for the Lindsay Pettus Greenway include extending the trail to increase community connectivity with the goal of total trail mileage being over 6 miles.

Parking and Trail Access

Park at the Barr Street Learning Center (610 E. Meeting Street) or at the Lancaster High School football stadium visitor lot (459 Colonial Drive).

Lindsay Pettus Greenway Reviews

This was a good run. The trail is mostly flat. It's measured out and it's accurate. I really enjoyed this route and plan to revisit.
