The Little Kanawha Connector Trail stretches west to east across Parkersburg, a city located at the confluence of the Ohio and Little Kanawha rivers in West Virginia. The trail is a combination of separated path and shared roadway.
In the west, the trail begins at Point Park, which offers scenic views of the Ohio River and Belpre, Ohio, on the opposite shore. The trail consists of a bike lane on 2nd Street from the park south to Avery Street, where it separates from the road onto a former rail corridor.
After passing a large building housing operations of the federal Bureau of the Fiscal Service (formerly the Bureau of the Public Debt), the Little Kanawha Connector Trail heads under 5th Street/State Route 14. A signed route on low-traffic roads leads trail users from 5th Street east to the current endpoint at Corning Park.
In the future, the Little Kanawha Connector Trail will be extended to meet the 72-mile North Bend Rail Trail south of Parkersburg at Happy Valley Road.
Parking for the Little Kanawha Connector Trail is available at Point Park. Access the park from the northern end of 2nd Street.
I haven’t ridden the trail on bike, but I’ve driven the parts that are on the road. Depot St. is bordered by abandoned buildings that are known for drug activity. As a woman, I wouldn’t ride this trail alone or without protection.
