Merrimack River Greenway Trail Description

The Merrimack River Greenway Trail (MRGT) will stretch from Boscawen southward through Concord to Pembroke, offering scenic views of the Merrimack River, the city and the surrounding landscapes. The northern half of the trail will run along the abandoned Northern New Hampshire Railroad right-of-way, while the southern half will be a riverside greenway trail. The 10- to 12-foot-wide paved path will be smooth and relatively flat, making it accessible for those with mobility aids or families with strollers.

The Merrimack River Greenway Trail will be a large part of the much longer Granite State Rail Trail, which will eventually run across New Hampshire from Salem to Lebanon.

Currently, only about a third of a mile is open and it follows the Merrimack River from the Terrill Park Dog Park (7 Manchester St) to US-3/Manchester St, just east of where the highway crosses the river. Eventually the trail will meet the Northern Rail Trail at River Rd in Boscawen and head southeast to the Concord-Pembroke Town Line for a total of 12.7 miles, 6.8 of which will be on a former rail line.
