Mesa Valley Trail Description

Situated in the northwestern corner of Colorado Springs, the Mesa Valley Trail travels through largely open areas to Sondermann Park. In the park, you will travel through woodlands along Mesa Creek. You may see beavers, deer, coyotes, raccoons and hawks. A highlight of the trail is its great view of Pikes Peak. However, trail-goers should note that the trail's surface is dirt and gravel, making it best-suited for mountain biking, horseback riding or hiking.

Parking and Trail Access

A parking lot is available near the southern end of the trail at the Beidleman Environmental Center (740 W. Caramillo Street) in Sondermann Park. Behind the building, follow signs to a short pathway that will take you over a bridge to the Mesa Valley Trail.

Mesa Valley Trail Reviews

Pleasent urban trail

For a trail bike, this is a short trail for people who don't need nor want a challenge. The only part that gives me trouble is a rutted, steep grade down to the Mesa Creek. Other trail bikers can manage it, but I can't keep my tires in a good track and I end up walking the bike down. :p

There's wildlife to see, a creek, and varied landscapes from large cottonwood and willow stands, to desert hills, and a swamp at its lower end into Sondermann Park.

The trail is listed for foot, bike, and horse usage only. Unfortunately, it is not marked as limited usage nor blocked off from the motorcycle and 4 wheeling tracks that run to the north. Be aware that they sometimes spill onto the this trail.
