Midland Trace Trail Description

The Midland Trace Trail follows the abandoned Central Indiana Railway corridor (a.k.a. the "Midland"). When complete, it will run from Westfield to the White River in Noblesville, paralleling State Route 32, located roughly 0.25 mile to the corridor’s north. The trail will pass through scenic woodlands and open fields, cross two historic railroad trestles and link neighborhoods, schools and parks in Noblesville and Westfield.

The longest section of the Midland Trace Trail currently runs from 302 S Union Street in Westfield to the intersection of Westfield Road/SR32 and Hague Road in Noblesville. Plans include continuing the trail east to SR37.

In Westfield, two additional sections run from Retford Drive to Austrian Pine Way and from Quaker Park (17501 Dartown Rd) to a seamless connection with the nearly 20-mile Monon Trail just west of Westfield Park Road. In Noblesville, the trail connects to the Little Chicago Trail, which heads north.

The paved, 12-foot-wide trail has signage along the route and crosswalks (some with signal lights) at street crossings. Restrooms, water, and other amenities are located along the trail and at the trailheads. View the TrailLink map for locations of restrooms and water stations.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at Quaker Park on Dartown Road and Simon Moon Park on South Street/East 171st Street. Additional parking in Noblesville is located on the west side of Hazel Dell Road, just south of SR32. Parking is available at a number of locations along the trail. Midland Trace Trail Reviews

Great walk with my dogs

Took my dogs on this trail in the early evening in March 2023 and it was a great walk. Not many folks, and much of it was secluded in forest or with lakes on either side of the trail. I imagine it might be buggy in the summer, given all the water. Started in Westfield and went east. Will do it again.

This trail is shaping up nicely

We ride the Midland frequently, it has been updated through Westfield and now takes you East to connecting trails in Noblesville at State Road 32 & Hague Rd and to the Monon Trail Westerly with options to ride as far as Meijer Supermarket too. By joining the Monon you can ride as far as Sheridan, IN. This trail is in very good condition and has lots of shade and small wildlife .

New Favorite

This trail has been updated a lot. Main trail Head is off Hazel Dell Parkway. From there you can take the trail West towards Westfield or East to Noblesville. We’ve ridden both ways. This trail is not as busy as the Monon Trail and takes you several places. Most crossing now have warning lights and a lot of it is shaded which is nice on a hot day.

Westfield Segment Allows Golf Carts

The trail is much longer than shown on this map. It continues through Noblesville to the intersection of SR 32 and Hague Road where there are further options. However, those who oversee the Westfield segment of the trail decided it was a good idea to allow golf carts on the trail. The trail, especially over bridges, is not much wider than a golf cart which makes this decision dangerous for walkers, runners, bikers, and children. The Noblesville section does not allow ANY motorized vehicles and is, therefore, much safer and more enjoyable.

Accordion

Much longer now

This trail runs winds uninterrupted from Union Street in Westfield to Hague Road just outside of Noblesville's downtown area. It also unofficially easily links with Natalie Wheeler on Union St. which will take you to Cool Creek and can join you up with Hagan Burke at 146 (Now in Carmel) which will take you to the Monon w/o having to navigate major roads (sans crossing 146th st)

Looking forward to the finished product

Westfield has done a nice job on the trail so far. Will be great when it connects to the Monon. Then one could ride r/t all the way from Noblesville to downtown Indy.
