Mobridge Riverfront Walking Path Description

The small city of Mobridge, South Dakota is located on a beautiful stretch of the Missouri River, and there's no better way to get out and experience the pristine natural surroundings than the Mobridge Riverfront Walking Path. The asphalt pathway runs for over two miles between the railroad tracks and the riverfront, offering gorgeous views of the flatlands across the river to the west - be sure to bring a camera with you as sunset approaches, as the trail makes the perfect place to capture views of the South Dakota skies.

Portions of the trail border the still-active railroad tracks, part of the historic Milwaukee Road system that stretched from Chicago to the Pacific Ocean and are now operated by BNSF. The trail provides a neat, up-close opportunity to reflect on some of the community's history as a railroad town - the city's name is a contraction of "Missouri" and "Bridge," after the railroad bridge that once stood nearby to allow trains across the wide waters of the Missouri River. The community also honors other aspects of local history in a rather creative way, with a life-sized sculpture of a cowboy riding a giant walleye fish, playfully titled "Walleye Up" - the sculpture can be found right off the trail along Park Boulevard/Walleye Way, south of the city's charming Main Street.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available near the eastern end of the trail off of Park Boulevard/Walleye Way, south of Main Street and across the railroad tracks.
