Though Sturgis may be best known for the popular motorcycle events it hosts, the city also offers some great opportunites for the other kind of biker. The Moose Drive Bike Path is a 1.5 mile sidepath that runs next to Moose Drive, and it offers an important connection in the city's ten mile system of bike paths.
The path begins in the north where Moose Drive ends at Lazelle Street, right across from the city's longer Sturgis Centennial Bike Path. The path heads east and south through largely open, industrial areas, past the entrance to the popular Hog Heaven Campground. There is little to no tree cover as the path continues into a more residential area on the city's southwestern outskirts, before coming to an end at a culdesac on Holly Court.
Users can extend their trip by making use of the Sturgis Connector Trail near the southern end on Dolan Creek Road, or by taking the aforementioned Centennial Bike Path. The Moose Drive Bike Path may not be much to look at, but it helps connect residents to the food and commercial area to the north as well as to the rest of the city's bike paths and recreation areas.
Parking may be available at the northern end in the commercial lots off of Lazelle Street; be sure to follow any posted signs and regulations.
To reach the northern end of the trail from the direction of Rapid City, take I-90 north towards Sturgis, and take exit 30. Turn left onto Lazelle Street, and proceed across the railroad tracks by the Days Inn. Moose Drive will be on the left.
