North Bank Trail Description

The North Bank Trail will one day stretch 18 miles from Spring Lake to Marne, on the western outskirts of Grand Rapids. Currently, six miles are complete on the trail's western end, beginning at a connection to the Lakeside Trail  in the Village of Spring Lake and ending in Nunica, MI. This section parallels State Route 104 along the former Grand Trunk Railroad. Eventually, the trail will continue farther east to Coopersville and the Musketawa Trail in Marne.

The North Bank Bridge connects to the Spoonville Trail in Nunica, which includes a great bridge over the Grand River that also provides a connection to the Idema Explorers Trail.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available near the North Bank Trail's western end in Spring Lake's Central Park (817 Central Avenue) and at the trailhead located approximately 0.25 mile north of SR 104 on 144th Avenue.

North Bank Trail Reviews

Nunica to Silver Lake

We started at the Nunica end of the trail and biked to Spring Lake and back, 12.5 mile round trip. There is no parking lot at the Nunica end of the trail. However you are able to park next to the Post Office on Main Street, it's a few blocks away. Nice trail through wooded areas, residential areas, and working, Goes under Interstate 96.

Beautiful Trail

This is a beautiful trail that is in great shape!

Connection to Spoonville is Complete

In the comments from July of 2020 someone was looking for the Spoonville trail.

They were just a little early, it was completed in the fall of 2020.

Well marked from the East end of the Northbank trail, Spoonville crosses I-96 on a protected lane on the 112th Ave bridge, then takes a scenic trip along a ravine and around a golf course.

Spoonville trail includes the mile long crossing of the Grand River on the M-231 bridge.

With the new trail completed in late 2020, North Bank and Spoonville are 12.5 miles from the mouth of Spring Lake to the south side of the river at M-231.

This trail is so smooth and the color was very pretty today. You can now start in Nunica on the east end. It will soon connect with the Spoonerville Trail on the east end. And it connects with the Lakeside Trail on the west end. I'll ride it again.

North Bank Trail - Connection to Spoonville and Phase 2

Phase 2 of the NBT was just completed in July 2020. One can now ride a regional paved trail from Nunica to the beaches of Grand Haven without riding on a road (10-12 miles). The North Bank Trail will connect to Phase 2 of the Spoonville Trail that is currently under construction and offer a non-motorized route to the south side of the Grand River. The NBT is located mostly in attractive rural landscapes but conveniently connects into local business districts.

Where does it go?

Very nice new trail from 144th St. all the way to Nunica.
At the trailhead in Nunica, there is a sign pointing south for the Spoonville Trail. There is no trail, shoulder, sidewalk or markings for this. Where does it join the Spoonville??
