Old No. 9 Trail Description

The Old No. 9 Trail cuts right through the heart of Boerne along part of what was once an early walking path used by Native Americans to cross Texas Hill Country. Much later the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway Company (SA&AP) line passed near here before State Highway 9 was built. When the route was re-aligned (now US 87), this segment was abandoned, named for the old highway rather than the old railroad.

The paved trail includes interpretive signs, drinking fountains, and even a water mister at the Esser Road trailhead for those hot Texas days. There's also a shaded rest area midway at Blanco Road.

Parking and Trail Access

The Esser Road trailhead is at 358 Esser Road.

Old No. 9 Trail Reviews

fun trail

Fun trail. Straight in the beginning and benches along the way for stopping and resting. Trail has not so great houses backing up to it that made me feel a little uncomfortable being by myself with a child so I took my husband the next time I went. It ends in a pretty place near the Library with bridges and trees so the trail is more interesting on as you approach the library. I think next time we will start our ride at the library.
