Piedras Marcadas Trail Description

The Piedras Marcadas Trail follows a diversion channel of the same name in between residential subdivisions in northern Albuquerque. The trail and adjacent arroyo get their name from the Piedras Marcadas Canyon to the north (Spanish for "Marked Stones"), a large and beautiful natural space that juts right into the middle of the suburban surroundings.

The trail's northern end starts across from a segment of the Paseo del Norte Trail in a commercial stretch that marks the edge of development before the canyon takes over. The trail winds it way south and east, running behind rows of homes along the flood channel before linking up with the end of the Riverview Trail behind a cul-de-sac. From there, the trail makes a quick jaunt east through a basin until it reaches Eagle Ranch Road, where a short section of sidepath allows you to continue north to Piedras Marcadas Park, a small neighborhood park with playgrounds and parking. While not the longest trail you can partake of in the Albuquerque area, the Piedras Marcadas Trail offers some nice views and a pleasant, quiet trail experience - while also helping local residents with a way to get around off-road.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the eastern end of the trail in Piedras Marcadas Park via the lot on Eagle Ranch Road, just a short distance northwest from Coors Boulevard. Additional parking may be available on-street along the trail, or at the western end at local businesses off of Paseo del Norte Boulevard; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
