Pine Lake Trail Description

The Pine Lake Trail runs through a heavily wooded state park of the same name, which is especially known for its 250-year-old white pine trees. The trail begins at Deer Park, a half mile east of downtown Eldora in central Iowa, before heading north into Pine Lake State Park. At times, the trail closely follows the shoreline of the park's twin lakes and traverses hilly terrain. In the park, fishing, swimming, picnicking, camping and hiking opportunities are available. Shortly after exiting the park, it ends at County Road S56.

Parking and Trail Access

From U.S. Highway 20, take the Eldora/Steamboat Rock exit and head south on County Road S-56 for about 8 miles to reach Pine Lake State Park (22620 County Highway S56). Or, from Eldora on Highway 175, turn north onto County Road S-56 to reach Pine Lake State Park.

More here

This is an extremely lovely trail. It actually goes beyond Pine Lake State Park contrary to the the description. After a brief section as bike/ped lanes on S56, it continues on to Steamboat Rock along the Iowa River for a total of about 4 miles.
