Railroad Highway Trail Description

The 3.5-mile Railroad Highway Trail runs through gently undulating farmland just outside of Council Bluffs, Iowa. The trails sits within the corridor of Railroad Highway, but is separated from the road. The concrete trail is 10 feet wide, accommodating pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchair users and other trail travelers.

Extensions will connect it to the regional Council Bluffs and Omaha trail system. Future plans call for creating a continuous 17 miles of trail from Council Bluffs to Neola.

Parking and Trail Access

A small parking lot is available on the southern end of the trail by the Smith Wildlife Refuge (off Railroad Highway, just north of Husker Lane).
