Robert Piram Regional Trail Description

A recent addition to the region's impressive network of bike trails, the Robert Piram Regional Trail runs from Harriet Island Regional Park to the Kaposia Landing Fields in South St. Paul. The highly anticipated trail was opened to users in late 2020 and when complete, will create a loop that includes the Lilydale Regional Park Trail and the River to River Greenway. The trail is named for the longtime parks superintendent for the city of St. Paul.

Beginning in Harriet Island Regional Park, the trail runs eastward along the north side of Plato Boulevard until the E. Lafayette Frontage Rd where it connects with the Lafayette Bridge Trail. That trail heads north but the Robert Piram heads south to Eaton Street to St. Paul Downtown Airport. Wooden bridges carry trail users over the wetlands near the airport. The trail's route doesn't shy away from the industrial character of the riverfront - it passes by metal recycling yards, an impound lot and an active railroad.

While trail opened in December 2020, parts of the trail remain under construction, which will be continue until the Spring of 2021. When complete, it will be part of the Mississippi River Greenway which begins at the rivers headwaters in Itasca and stretches all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

Robert Piram Regional Trail Reviews

Nice little trail

We’ve taken this many times, just didn’t know it was named. It’s not very busy and plenty wide enough if you come upon another biker or walker.
