Rock Creek Trail (CO) Description

Following Rock Creek into the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve, the Rock Creek Trail is a soft-surface trail that  heads northeast from the Coalton Trailhead in Superior to the Stearns Lake Trailhead in Lafayette, where it connects with the Coal Creek Trail. Along the way, the trail passes Superior's Community Park and Boulder County’s Stearns Lake in the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve, where fishing is permitted with a Colorado State fishing license.

With scenic views and a variety of wildlife, the trail is perfect for hiking, horseback riding, and bird-watching. There are restrooms and picnic shelters at the Stearns Lake Trailhead and the Coalton Trailhead.

Regional trails and regional trail connectors are open to commuters 24 hours per day. However, the trailheads close at sunset and parking is not allowed between sunset and sunrise. Please note there are two missing links along the route in Broomfield.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the northern end of the trail in the the Stearns Lake parking lot, which can only be accessed from Dillon Rd and 104th St (no access from 287 through Rock Creek Farm). There is space for 15 cars and 2 horse trailers.

By the southern end of the trail, there is a parking lot at the Coalton Trailhead with spaces for 27 cars and 3 horse trailers (1 space with horse hitching rails). There are 2 accessible spaces.
