Sacajawea Trail Description

The Sacajawea Trail winds along the Yellowstone River in the picturesque mountain town of Livingston. Trailside benches dotting the route allow you to soak up the beautiful views.

A highlight of the journey is passage by Sacajawea Park, where you'll find a bronze statue of Sacajawea on horseback commemorating the day that the Corps of Discovery stopped here in 1806. The park's sweeping grassy areas are popular for picnicking and the local farmers market takes place nearby each summer.

The firm gravel pathway continues east to the Miles Park Athletic Complex, where you'll find baseball fields and the Livingston Civic Center.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available on the west end of the trail at Sacajawea Park.

Sacajawea Trail Reviews

City Park and Yellowstone River

Location: Livingston, MT
Trail Condition: Gravel/natural surface. Nice and smooth going.
Signage: Some regulatory and information signs.
Comments: From trailhead through Sacajawea Park the trail is narrow and elevated above the roadway. For bikes better to stay on road and not compete with walkers. The end segment of trail is wider and can handle both bikes and walkers. The trail is right a rivers edge and good views of the river. Osprey sitting on nest atop a tall pole near the trail.
Note: Couldn't find the Sacagawea statue from the trail or as I drove thru park. Must be hidden well.
