Leading visitors through the final events of the Second Battle of Manassas in the Manassas National Battlefield Park, this trail is comprised of several connected loops with a number of short spur and connector paths. Start your history trail-walk by the Henry Hill Visitor Center and pick up a map of the park, which includes a number of trails and sites of interest.
Beginning by visitor center, the dirt and grass path meanders north. After passing the Stone House, stop at Buck Hill and look west to see the unfinished railroad where Stonewall Jackson placed his Confederate forces. Crossing Sudley Road, the trail continues along a graded railroad bed leading to the site of Deep Cut.
Curving south, the path passes the Lucinda Dogan House (one of three surviving Civil War-era structures in the park). The trail crosses Route 29, heading towards New York Avenue where monuments mark the sites of the battle's significant confrontations. Looping around the Chinn Ridge Henry Hill, the trail heads back towards Henry Hill. Panels placed along Sudley Road describe the Battle's climactic phases.
The park is open year-round during daylight hours. There is no admission fee. Pets are welcome, provided they are leashed and their human companions clean up after them. The uneven, narrow, and winding dirt path may be difficult to navigate for those using mobility devices or for families with strollers.
Parking is available at a number of points along the trail. Please see the map for all the locations and detailed directions. The options include the Henry Hill Visitor Center Parking Lot (6511 Sudley Rd) and the Matthews Hill Parking Lot (5821 Sudley Rd). There is at least 1 accessible space in every parking lot, but note that the trail itself does not meet ADA accessibility guidelines.
