Seven Mile Loop Trail Description

The Seven Mile Loop Trail is located in the Crystal River Preserve State Park (3266 N Sailboat Ave, Crystal River). Winding through Florida's diverse coastal habitats, the route crosses three freshwater tidal creeks and passes through pine flatwoods, saltwater marsh flats, and freshwater swamps. Enjoy observing a wide variety of wildlife including deer, otters, alligators, squirrels, rabbits, crabs, tortoises, turtles, armadillos, numerous birds, and freshwater minnows. As a designated stop on the Great Florida Birding & Wildlife Trail, the trail is quite popular with the birdwatchers. The flora and fauna found along the trail includes a variety of beautiful wildflowers.

The out-and-back trail is initially a straight line before forming a loop. The surface is primarily dirt and trail conditions are subject to weather. The 7-mile trail can be wet, muddy, or even flooded, especially during hurricane season. The trail is better suited to bikes with wider tires, such as mountain bikes. There are benches along the route, but no restrooms or access to water. The closest restrooms are at the State Park Office (3266 N Sailboat Avenue). It's recommended that you take plenty of water as it can get quite hot and humid on the trail. Be prepared for a variety of conditions and check the weather ahead of time as the area is prone to afternoon thunderstorms.

There is a fee to enter the preserve. For more information, visit the Crystal River Preserve page on Florida State Park's website. The preserve also has camping, fishing, boating, and picnic facilities. Pets are welcome on a leash. The dock, boat tours, and picnic areas are accessible.

The trailhead is located at the intersection of State Park Street and Sailboat Avenue.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the trailhead within the Crystal River Preserve State Park (3266 N Sailboat Ave, Crystal River). There is a fee to enter the park in a vehicle. For more information, visit the Crystal River Preserve page on Florida State Park's website

Seven Mile Loop Trail Reviews

It's unpaved it gets unpassable in wet weather, but, if you want nature this is a very good trail.
