Soldier Creek Nature Trail Description

The Soldier Creek Nature Trail runs south from Snell-Crawford Park alongside residential neighborhoods in Fort Dodge. For most of its route, the trail is within just a few feet of Soldier Creek (hence its name). The trail ends in southern Fort Dodge immediately adjacent to an active rail corridor at Central Avenue.

In fact, the Soldier Creek Nature Trail occupies the bed of an abandoned Chicago and North Western railroad line. At the northern end of the trail in Snell-Crawford Park, the old railroad corridor continues as the unpaved Fort Dodge Nature Trail for another 3 miles. Both trails are closed to motorized vehicles.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Soldier Creek Nature Trail can be found at the trail's northern endpoint in Snell-Crawford Park at the intersection of Williams Drive and 12th Avenue North.
