Sorenson's Way Description

Named after the local couple who spearheaded efforts to build the pathway, Sorenson's Way is a paved sidepath trail that runs chiefly alongside Valley Road in the northwest Delaware community of Hockessin. Area officials dedicated the trail to Liane and Boyd Sorenson in 2018 in recognition of their efforts to bring trails to the small community. Thanks to the work of the Sorensons and other trail advocates, cyclists and pedestrians now have a safer and easier means of traversing some of the town's outlying neighborhoods and parks.

The trail's southern end picks up across from the entrance to the local athletic club and continues north along the roadside - while not the most scenic stretch of trail, it gets the job done. A short spur across from Evanson Road provides access to residences on the western side of the road via a former railroad corridor - on the eastern side of the road, the main trail follows the inactive railroad tracks for a short rail-with-trail segment as the trail enters the county's Swift Bicentennial Park.

Certainly not a destination trail, Sorenson's Way nevertheless offers a useful community pathway, connecting residents with their local public library and parks.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at Swift Park off of Old Lancaster Pike, and at the Hockessin Public Library at 1023 Valley Road - be sure to follow the posted parking signs to park in the right area.
