Swanton Recreation Path Description

Although only a mile, the Swanton Recreation Path, completed in 2009, offers a scenic asphalt pathway that starts at the Ronald F. Kilburn Transportation Museum (a rehabilitated train station) and passes Swanton Elementary School. A highlight of the route is its crossing over the Missisquoi River on a 1902 bridge that was relocated to the site in 2002 to replace an older wooden bridge that burned down in 1987.

This community trail connects directly onto the end of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (LVRT), with an 11.6 mile gravel section that currently ends at Sheldon, completed in September 2021. The final sections of the LVRT will be finished in 2022 to complete the full 93-mile trail all the way across Vermont to St. Johnsbury.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking can be found at the Swanton History Museum (58 South River Street) and Swanton Elementary School (24 Fourth Street).

cute path!

This is a nice walk through Swanton. Perfect for meeting a friend, walking the dogs, or letting small children test out a bike or 3-wheeler. This path connects to the MVRT.
