The Thread Trail

The Thread Trail is a network of multiuse trails that connect parks, neighborhoods, and commercial areas within the City of LaGrange. Currently 13 miles of a proposed 29 mile are open for walking, running, cycling, and other recreational activities.

The trail features a variety of surfaces, including asphalt, concrete, and boardwalks. Open from dawn to dusk, the trail is composed of more traditional greenway segments and sections that parallel roads. For the most part, the trail is smooth, flat, and 10-feet wide—making it accessible for those using mobility devices and easily navigable for strollers.

The trail is divided into several segments, each with its unique features and attractions. The main trailhead is located at Granger Park (100 Hunnicutt Pl), where visitors can access the trail and enjoy the scenic views of West Point Lake. The park has a large playground, picnic areas, sports fields, basketball courts, a tennis complex, restrooms, parking, and also includes the Thread Trail's water trail segment, which can be accessed by kayaks and canoes from several boat ramps located along West Point Lake.

Looping through Granger Park, the trail heads south before splitting to head in multiple directions. Continue south past Lafayette Square to reach Southbend Park (109 Cherry St), which has a large playground, a dog park, a skate park, a picnic area, restrooms, and parking. Alternatively follow the trail west past LaGrange College, where the trail splits again to head south passing Calloway Stadium and north to Hollis Hand Elementary School. Or head east and then north to the Sweetland Amphitheater (110 Smith St).

A currently unconnected section of the trail runs between Calmut Park (109 Union St) and the Mike Daniel Recreation Center (1220 Lafayette Pkwy), passing Eastside Park, the Calmut Center, and the George Harris baseball and softball complexes along the way.

Drinking water is available at the Mike Daniel Recreation Center and at the Haralson Street Trailhead, just west of the intersection with N Greenwood Street. Restrooms are available at Granger Park, Southbend Park, and the Mike Daniel Recreation Center.

As visitors travel along the trail, they will pass through several residential neighborhoods, providing a glimpse of the local community and culture. The trail also connects to the downtown area of LaGrange, where visitors can enjoy shopping, dining, and other entertainment options.

One of the unique features of the Thread Trail is the inclusion of public art installations along the trail. These art pieces are designed by local artists and reflect the culture and history of the community. The trail also includes several interpretive signs and educational kiosks, providing information on the natural environment, history, and local landmarks.

Parking and Trail Access

Granger Park, the main trailhead, has a large parking lot. Other parks along the trail, including Southbend Park (109 Cherry St) and Calmut Park (109 Union St), also offer ample parking for visitors. There are several other parking areas available at various points along the trail, providing convenient access to the different segments.
