When complete, the Trinity Strand Trail will be a 7.8-mile link between the Katy Trail and the Trinity River. Today, however, 2.5 miles of the concrete trail have been completed. The walking and biking pathway snakes along the original channel of the Trinity River, now accommodating the Turtle Creek. The land acquired thanks to donations from adjacent landowners. The route is not shaded, and the surroundings are mostly commercial and industrial with some newer residential development near its eastern end.
The Hi Line trailhead is at the western end of Hi Line Dr. There is a sizeable parking area here. (The main trailhead is called Turtle Creek Plaza, along Turtle Creek Dr. It consists of a concrete semicircle, water fountain and a 14-ft beam representing the level of floodwaters during the historic 1908 flood. There is no parking here, however.)
The trail was very well kept and there wasn’t any issues on the run! A heads up there’s currently construction at the Trailhead but other than that it was a great run with no issues!
Turn back and find another spot to walk or run! This looks better on paper. I stopped after a half a mile. There’s no clear or safe access from a major intersection I 35 & Oaklawn Avenue. The city of Dallas has permitted construction to close off access from Highline Dr.,and the only parking there is paid surface parking which is not clearly seen from the Hiline entrance.Trail is dirty. I decided to turn back and go to the Katy Trail to walk. This may be good in the future but in 2022 it’s a hard pass.
Great place for running, it’s too short for biking. It seems somewhat forgotten, but it has potential. Also, places saturated with slippery mud, so be careful.
