Veloway Trail Description

The Veloway Trail is a 3.1-mile, 23-foot-wide loop trail, paved, through a quiet and secluded area of the Circle C Ranch Metropolitan Park on the outskirts of Austin. The trail offers a mix of terrain, including hills, flats, curves and long straight-aways. The Veloway is designed for cyclists and inline skaters only; foot traffic is not permitted. Trail users must go in a clockwise direction. There are covered benches and bicycle racks, as well as portable toilettes. You'll find the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center across the street from the park.

Parking and Trail Access

Take the Mopac Expressway south and turn left on La Crosse Avenue; after a short distance, turn left into the gravel parking lot.

Veloway Trail Reviews

My own neighborhood Veloway!!!!!

I just moved back to my hometown of Austin, and live in a nice, quiet, safe, gated neighborhood, in Circle C Ranch. I decided to get back into road cycling, so I bought an amazing bike, and started looking for safe places to ride. To my immense shock and pleasure, I found that the Veloway was five minutes away.

This park is unique in the US. So, what a blessing. It is about 3.6 miles, very clean, safe, well kept, with no hikers, or cars. I love it, and spend an hour or so, doing laps, a few times a week, to train for long group (intermediate) rides. It is a tough course, and I love it.

I wish these were all over our country, as I have homes, and business interests, throughout the country…

Great for family

First visit with 10 yr old son. The trail was safe and perfect for us. ¿¿¿¿ We are excited to visit it often.

great trail

Great trail for skates! It’s hard to find trails that are accessible for skates so this is perfect. Smooth trail with a few area with some dirt or twigs

New Road Surface = Great Ride!

Thanks to the crew who laid down the new surface I can update and improve my previous rating. Beautiful new tarmac is a real pleasure to ride.

Tarmac needs a refresh

Great for the most part - nice variety of elevations and even a short technical climb. Also some good places to practice cornering skills. But the surface is cracked throughout the course and in dire need of resurfacing. Cracks are painted bright red, as they should be, by a diligient crew. Ride with caution.

Skaters and Cyclists Only!! Great Track

I have been skating here 15 years. It is worth driving to this park from any area of town. There is more than enough parking! Most Cyclists and Skaters respect each other's space. Stay to the right at all times, especially if you are a new cyclist or skater (or are with your children and teaching them). When passing someone always let them know in advance you are passing by saying "ON YOUR LEFT". This is for courtesy and safety of everyone. There is a 'General Rules' sign out front that you should read before getting on the road. If you follow the rules and stay alert of all others out there, you will have a lot of fun. There is an occasional "Tour de France wanna be" cyclist (not often) who thinks the road belongs to them. Just stay to the right and you won't have to deal with them. Have fun, bring your camera, lots of water and enjoy your time there.

Austin city gem

The Velloway has been a safe heaven for my family for more than 15 years as my boys learned to ride bikes and progress into a great training ground as they advanced into triathlon and road cycling. The closed off bike and rollerblading path allows the entire family to go at their own pace with little worry about anyone getting lost or kidnapped. Definitely a must visit for Austin biking families
