Walnut Springs Trail Description

The Walnut Springs Trail follows Walnut Branch (Creek), winding across Seguin from south to north, hitting the Seguin Public Library, Walnut Springs Park and Park West on the journey to its endpoint near New Braunfels Street. The trail is mostly off-street with short on-street/ sidewalk connecting segments.

The trail's endpoint lies at the west end of a residential street known as West Convent Street. From there, the trail is only a few steps from the Seguin Public Library. Built in 2016, the library's design embraces its natural backdrop, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the trees and a cantilevered deck that is oriented towards the creek and the trail. Across the street is the crown jewel of Seguin's park system, Walnut Springs Park. The linear creekside park was designed by architect Robert Hugman who later went on to design San Antonio's famous Riverwalk. While Seguin's park fell into disrepair, it was eventually revitalized, giving residents a renewed appreciation for their historic urban oasis. The babbling water and lush greenery attract daytime workers as well as residents seeking out a tranquil moment in the heart of the city.

The trail continues to follow the creek up Guadalupe Street and across a wetland Saunders Street. At this point, trail users can use Saunders Street and Medlin Street to reach the next segment of off-street path, crossing the open field between Dolle Avenue and Jones Avenue. Again, a short stretch west on Jones Avenue leads to back the trail, which curves around the perimeter of Park West, 48 acres of trees, trails and athletic facilities including a skate park, basketball court, soccer pitches, a playspace and splash pad.

The trail continues its journey out of the park and north, past the Tyson's food plant and to its endpoint on the banks of Walnut Branch, just south of New Braunfels Street.

Parking and Trail Access

Options for parking include Walnut Springs Park (317 W Court St, Seguin, TX) and Park West (601-625 N Vaughan Ave, Seguin, TX). The latter has parking areas on N. Vaughan Avenue and another on San Antonio Avenue next to the skate park (920 San Antonio Ave, Seguin, TX 78155).

Walnut Springs Trail Reviews

the trail was great, perfect for parents pushing strollers or pulling wagons with young kids.

There were some areas that we not marked on which street to go on. But other than that, I enjoyed this trail.
