Westin Hills Trail Description

Providing an invaluable connection between the 144th Street Trail and the West Papio Trail, two key trails in the Omaha area's trail network, the Westin Hills Trail also serves as a pleasant community recreation path, connecting residents to a series of local parks in the rapidly-developing western outskirts of Omaha. The trail begins in the east at a junction with the 144th Street Trail, a multiuse path that spans over fourteen miles along the roadway. Heading west, the Westin Hills Trail follows a utility corridor in between rows of suburban homes before entering a small neighborhood park with playgrounds and a basketball court. The trail reaches 156th Street, where trail users can take the sidewalk up to Butler Avenue and then head south again to pick up another segment of trail right in front of a local elementary school.

Continuing west, the trail passes through an open park space that is home to a popular local splash park, perfect for hot Nebraska summer days. Rejoining the utility corridor, the trail comes to an end at 167th Street, just a short distance away from the northern trailhead built for a segment of the West Papio Trail, one of the crown jewels of the trail network that can take you all the way southeast into Bellevue. Whether you're using the trail as an extension of a long day of trail riding or just as a convenient place to take a walk, the Westin Hills Trail is a nifty asset for the community.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the Stone Ridge Splash Park along the trail, at the intersection of N 163rd Street and N 162nd Avenue. Additional parking is available at the West Papio Trail trailhead located at the intersection of N 168th Street and Ames Avenue, several blocks north from Maple Road.

Westin Hills Trail Reviews

Smooth wide asphalt. There's a break in the trail for a few blocks you have to use the sidewalks to connect the 2 parts. The trail links to the 144th St. Trail which links to the Standing Bear Lake Trail, so in the end this can be nice hike.
