Wingra Creek Path Description

The Wingra Creek Path—also known as the Wingra Bike Path—runs along the winding waterway in Madison. The trail provides a critical link from the neighborhoods south of downtown Madison to the Capital City State Trail and several city parks.

At the trail’s eastern end, Olin Park offers sweeping views of Lake Monona. The adjacent Turville Point Conservation Area features several nature trails perfect for identifying local flora and fauna. Extending west from Olin Park, the Wingra Creek Path passes under Olin Avenue and emerges next to Goodman Park, home to a popular public pool and softball diamonds.

A spur from near Goodman Park leads south to Quann Park on Bram Street; continue east along the road to reach the Alliant Energy Center, home to a wide range of events and exhibits. The main trail continues westward on the north side of the creek, offering lovely views of the water and University of Wisconsin Arboretum on the opposite shore.

Just past the entrance to the arboretum, a scenic overlook provides tables for picnicking or relaxing. The trail ends in the west at the entrance to beautiful Vilas Park and the Henry Vilas Zoo. The large park on the shore of Lake Wingra is one of Madison’s oldest and most popular.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Wingra Creek Path is available at Olin Park on Olin-Turville Court; Goodman Park on Olin Avenue; and Vilas Park on Vilas Park Drive.
