Parking is available on the east end of the trail at the Reading Public Muesum (500 Museum Road).
My husband, dog and I use this trail system at least 5 times a week. It’s longer than the map shows. If you are familiar with the area, this trail extends out to Lancaster Ave in Shillington. There are 5 places to park. Near the beginning of the trail @ the West Reading Fire House, the Reading Museum, the ponds, the field trail, and one at the Lancaster Ave end next to the soccer fields. From open fields to wooded areas, there are plenty of scenic spots around for everyone. This is my happy place!
While I agree that the scenery along this trail is wonderful, the section of trail through the Reading Museum grounds is a bumpy ride on a narrow path. By the looks of the people we passed, I got the feeling that bikes were not expected or welcome. Next time we will stay on the roads.
This trail is awesome due to mature and well designed landscaping. Greater still is that it connects with Thun SRT system.
This is a lovely little walk in the heart of Wyomissing. When we walked there in the late afternoon, there weren't many other folks along the trail. We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves, which made it even more lovely.
Very popular, local trail. Surprising amount of birds, plants and animals. By using a combination of trails and roads, you can follow the creek upstream or downstream on either the West or East side for an uncomplicated hike, jog or walk. Even though it is in the middle of the city, it is a wonderful little chuck of natural outdoors.
I love running at wyomissing because there are some hills, which can help me deal with running up hills during races, and there are overlooks which are amazing and one part you run through a pine forest which is also cool.
This trail my wife and i have travelled too many times to give a real number,anyhow the Wyo trail packs amazing scenery from the beautifull wyo creek it follows to the stunning pond one encounters about the half way point.some of the finest homes in berks border the trail along with tennis courts to some well maintained old 100 year or older farm house(s) with barn(s).all restored and well maintained.A trail short in distance but long on fine scenery.
Excellent trail i have walked many many times! You as stated can easily connect to a much greater trail that runs for many miles in either direction.(thun trail)
The Wyomissing Creek Trail is the section of the Greater Reading Trail network that connects the western suburbs with the city and points beyond. Although the trail is only signed on its easternmost segment from the railroad underpass on Old Wyomissing Road to Museum Street, a paved, multiuse greenway continues an additional 2 miles through Wyomissing Park to Old Mill Road. Most of the trail passes through Wyomissing Park and closely follows Wyomissing Run, through a lush, tree-lined environment with numerous benches, athletic facilities and playground equipment; the Reading Museum and a public swimming pool are near the trail's eastern terminus. The trail technically ends at the underpass that carries Old Wyomissing Road beneath the active Norfolk Southern railroad line that runs along the southwest bank of the Schuylkill River; however, the Thun Trail can be easily accessed on the other side of the underpass, allowing hikers and cyclists to continue either across the river to Reading's Riverfront Park and Community College, or southeast to Brentwood, Birdsboro and points beyond. The Wyomissing Creek Trail is a welcome addition to the Greater Reading Trail network, one of the most extensive and developed urban greenway systems in the state.
