Zumbro North Trail Description

Stretching for over five miles along the south fork of the Zumbro River, the Zumbro North Trail acts as part of the backbone of the city of Rochester's fantastic network of trails and bike paths, along with the Zumbro South Trail and the Bear Creek Trail, which meet the trail at its southern endpoint. The trail passes through some of the city's premier parks and recreation sites, including Mayo Memorial Park, Silver Lake Park, and Riverview West Park, helping to connect residents with these community assets.

The southern end of the trail runs along the eastern riverbank, before crossing over the river via at footbridge within Silver Lake Park. The trail soon crosses back over again at Broadway Avenue, where the Cascade Creek Trail begins - a useful connection for those looking to travel west through Rochester or enjoy the sights along the creek. The trail crosses back over to the west side of the river one last time, just past the underpass beneath Elton Hills Drive, and continues north along the side of West River Parkway. The pleasant, tree-lined surroundings along the river eventually give way to a more suburban landscape of businesses and strip malls, before returning once again to a more relaxed and natural setting at the northern end of the trail. Trail users can continue their journey along the bike path that follows 55th Street, which leads past Essex Park and into a series of paths to the west.

With its numerous connections to local trails and bike paths, as well as numerous views of the river and downtown Rochester, the Zumbro North Trail is both functional and scenic - a rare combo for a trail in such an urban setting.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at various points along the trail, with parking at the southern end available in Mayo Park, off of East Center Street, and additional parking at Silver Lake Park, located at 840 7th Street NE.
